Meet … Ms. Carolyn Schmidt, M.Sc.

Senior Consultant
Marketing and Latin American Relationships

Ms. Carolyn Schmidt has years of marketing experience at high corporate levels including the building of extensive relationships across the Latin American Region. Her studies are in the areas of International Studies and Management. She has also done College Teaching, Program Administration along with Life Coaching and Corporate Training & Development.

She has worked in both the corporate and education arena. In her previous roles she has served as Assistant Director of Academic Affairs, Program Director for the School of Business, Lead Instructor, Director of Special Projects, Regional Director South & East Coast USA and adjunct professor. She has overseen and provided business education specializing in management and international business as well as provided informational session, seminars, training sessions and working round table groups to the international transportation community.

She is known for her ability to take complex concepts and make them fun, applicable and easy to understand for students and business people alike. She has a true love of helping students and business people acquire skills that they thought were too challenging and shares her passion for “not business as usual” business through her teaching strategies that address varied learning styles.

Prior to entering education, she worked in the transportation industry for over 20 years where she held positions at AEI, China Airlines, EdiTrade and IATA. She held the position of Vice President of the Miami Air Cargo Association for several years, while she also served on the Miami International Airport’s Cargo Partners Committee as well as the Steering Committee for the Air Cargo Americas, a Bi Annual Trade Show and Conference hosted by the World Trade Center Miami. She wrote the program for, and coordinated the delivery of IATA’s annual CNS Partnership Conference, oversaw the publication of CNS’s quarterly publication, FOCUS, in addition to delivering the IATA CNS Advisory Board Meetings for two years.

Her experience in international business, especially transportation, where she dealt with issues such as embargos, the harmonized traffic schedule, quotas, regulations (FAA, CBP, TSA, ) and tariffs, has given her the unique ability to view complex issues with humor and practicality.

On a personal level, she enjoys travel, reading, spending time with dear friends and family. She is a dog lover, supports various dog rescues and champions the ethical treatment of all animals. A Catholic, and devoted pilgrim to the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago), she frequently encourages others to embark on their “camino” through talks or sharing how her own Camino forever changed her life for the better. As a result, she makes it a point to visit Santiago and pay her respects at the tomb of St. James the Apostle at least once a year.
